The Thatched House is situated 4 miles west of the ancient market town of Horsham, first mentioned in the Saxon King Eadred’s Charter of 947. With its wealth of medieval timber-framed buildings and the Carfax, central site of fairs and markets from the 13th century, Horsham has retained an attractive sense of tradition. Newly developed areas like the Forum with its piazza and cafes sit easily alongside the more historical aspects of the town. There are weekly farmers’ markets and the mainline station operates a regular service to London, Brighton, Chichester and Portsmouth.
Goodwood and its wide program of events including the Festival of Speed is always popular with visitors to the region, as is the polo season at Cowdray Park and Ewhurst .
The Thatched House is ideally located for those who wish to explore the country houses and gardens of the South-East and the following are within easy reach.
